MmaTsebe Tented Camp is an authentic tented bushcamp carefully positioned within an ancient riverine forest along the Mbudi River in Khwai on the Northern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana.

MmaTsebe Tented Camp is located within a secluded private position of 25 hectares in Khwai along the Mbudi River. 30 minutes’ game drive from North Gate Moremi Game Reserve, 30 minutes’ game drive from Khwai airstrip, and 3.5 hours drive from Maun. The popular game rich area of Khwai shares borders with Chobe National Park, Savuti and Moremi Game Reserve, MmaTsebe Tented Camp therefore has easy access to these iconic game locations in Northern Botswana.

Safety

You will have read Botswana is stable, safe and extremely friendly, this is true, relax whilst on holiday in Botswana, each tent is fitted with a safe, to keep any cash, cards or devices not being used, out of temptations way.

When is a good time to go?

MmaTsebe Tented Camp is open all year round, this special location has something to offer the discerning safari traveler 12 months of the year. Activities in our prime location remain available all year round, including Mekoros. Please refer to the rates sheet for the different seasonal rates.

Green Season 01 December to 31 March, is an incredible time of year, stormy clouds gather and the promise of long -awaited rain, in these parts the smell of rain is synonymous with new life and is celebrated, antelope with their young, hot days & balmy nights the most affordable time of year to visit.

Mid -Season 01 April to 30 June & November, nights and early mornings are becoming chilly, the clouds and rain for the most part have disappeared, the grass is long, the herds of elephant delight in these times of warm plenty.

High Season 01 July to 31 Oct, the “everyone is on holiday” time of year, wildlife is plentiful congregating around shrinking pools, shorter grass, cooler days and cold nights, snuggle around that famous campfire, “let the stories begin”.

How to get there?

Self -drive, 4 x 4 vehicle required, 3.5 hours’ drive from Maun, 4 hours drive from Savuti. 20 min from Moremi North Gate and the Khwai village. Air Charter from Maun or any camp in Northern Botswana to Khwai airstrip. We will collect you from Khwai airstrip, a game drive of 20 min. Road transfer from Maun, available in a game drive Toyota Landcruiser.

What should I bring to wear?

An African safari in our camps is the perfect time to kick back, relax and be comfortable. Comfortable layers, to pile on in the early mornings and peel off during the day is the usual order of clothing needs. Comfortable flat shoes are the best idea for safaris days & nights. Winter can be very cold, June, July and August be prepared to be surprised how cold it can get in the early hours. Plenty of lush blankets are everywhere, in the game drive vehicles, around the fire, and in your tent.

What is the accommodation like?

An authentic sensitively appointed tented bushcamp with comfortable, yet generous proportions, bedrooms 6 x 4m & bathrooms 4 x 2m.  All tents will have fans in the rooms.

Eight en-suite tents, all of which can be made up as a double or twin, please specify preference. Five mobile single beds are available and can be inserted to any of the tents to make up a triple. Only one additional bed per tent may be added.

Where and what will I eat?

Nobody goes hungry on safari, dining with a view is an everyday, every meal event at MmaTsebe Tented Camp. A central and reasonably close common dining area hosts all your meals. Wholesome responsibly sourced local produce is prepared fresh every-day. Please give us your preferences ahead of time. We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and lactose intolerant.

Activities

Please check the rates sheet to confirm which activities are included in your rate. Game drives, mekoro trips, relax & chill by the camp swimming pool, gin & tonic with our very own Okavango Gin a firm favourite during this valued activity. Game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles and accommodate a maximum of 7 guests per vehicle, cooler boxes accompany all drives with your sundowner or early morning preferences.

MmaTsebe also offers a full day boat cruise from the Xakanaxa Boat Station where guests can enjoy a picnic lunch on board the boat.  There is a good chance of spotting the elusive sitatunga from the top level of this boat. This activity departs camp after breakfast around 7am and will return between 5-6pm depending on the game viewing along the way.  Guests will enjoy a game drive through Moremi Game Reserve to and from this boat activity.  There is an additional cost for this activity – kindly refer to rate sheet for details.

Power

In line with our “touch the earth gently” policy, power is sourced via solar, inverters and battery power ensure 220v power 24hrs a day. Charging facilities for all your devices with international plug conversions are installed in your tents, and a secondary facility in the main dining area. Although we do advise you to bring your own adaptors, just in case.

WIFI

Wi-Fi is available in camp in certain areas, and whilst we like to stay connected occasionally the bandwidth is not quite as fast as at home, we suggest prepare in advance and download your holiday requirements before leaving home, so that communication to family and friends is easily done via Wi-Fi. We prefer the lounge, fire and dining facilities stay device free.

Children on Safari

All children over the age of six are welcome at MmaTsebe Tented Camp. Please check the rates sheet to check out the accommodation pricing options. If you have children under the age of 12 in your party, a private vehicle for game drives will need to be reserved.

Children under 12 yrs will be able to participate in a mekoro activity with their parent and only if they can swim and are well behaved.

Mosquito’s and Bugs

It’s wise to know we are literally “in their territory”. Bugs, mosquito’s and all those creatures are around, they are part of the fabric of safari. We make as many provisions as we can to make sure they do not negatively impact your safari. Malaria is not prevalent in Botswana, but it is in neighbouring countries, please take the advice of your home doctor with regard to advance preparation to protect yourself.

Medical Facilities

Please travel with a fully comprehensive medical travel insurance policy and please bring all your daily requirements with you. You are covered by our local medical air rescue whilst in camp or on game drive, our camp staff are trained with basic medical aid, and a fully equipped medical box is available in camp. Each tent is fitted with an alarm horn, management and guides are strategically placed to answer a horn 24hrs.
