I was met at the airport, my luggage checked through for the small plane ride to the bush, and introductions proactively made to my traveling companions. Our guide met us in the bush with cold drinks and set the stage for us to be a "family" for the next 11 days. Isaac set expectations well throughout the trip, on our first day letting us know that we'd go to camp and get a quick snack, but that there were cheetah's in the area and he'd like to try and get us to see them since that is why we came. It was a great start and got better from there. The men at camp took tremendous care of us, with hot showers, fresh bread daily, amazing soup, and lots of smiles and laughter. Whenever we had an experience outside of Okavango Expeditions, such as mocorro or motor boat tours, Isaac would let us know what to bring, including cash for tips. Before travel days when we moved to new campsites, he'd again make sure we packed whatever we would need for an entire day so we had it available. Those simple things made the trip run smoothly AND WE HAD THE MOST AMAZING ANIMAL SIGHTINGS. 22 lions, 2 lion cubs maybe 6 weeks old, 10 cheetahs total, hundreds of elephants and buffalo, pelicans creating a net and fishing together, skimmer chicks and more.The main thing that stays with me is the care that was taken of the guests. As a female traveling alone, I felt safe, looked after, welcome and included. I was met at the airport by Phinneas, who made sure we all got on the right flight to the bush, with our luggage. Our guide Isaac met us, welcomed us, and put us on a Cheerah sighting right away. The guys in camp were friendly and took great care of us, feeding us 3 course meals every day...I am not a soup person, but sthe soup at dinner and the daily fresh bread at lunch were fabulous. Everything was explained clearly so we knew when to get up, what to bring with us, if we should bring a tip for external adventures. Being in a mokoro and also motor boat at the end were real highlights.It was my first time traveling solo in Africa and I felt not just safe, but looked after and cared about. I highly recommend this trip and company.Posted onVerified Moments to remember forever I’m writing this review 3 weeks post my unforgettable experience in Botswana aboard Okavango Expeditions “Authentic Safari” and I’m still reliving the moments as I share with family and friends who marvel with envy at my photos and stories of me incredible animal encounters.This is a MUST DO, DREAM EXPERIENCE!!! I can not praise enough on the professionalism of our guide Paul. His passion, care and kindness was felt by all and our group of 7 felt so fortunate to be in his care. Our crew were also marvellous. The food was incredible and the service and hospitality 5 star in a glamping environment. You chose Okavango Expeditions because you want to observe the behaviour of the animals. This is not a safari where you simply “tick” boxes. We stopped and watched a pride of lions plan their attack, a leopard drag his prey from a hide and up a tree and so many more amazing behavioural experiences that many other companies passed on because of their time restrictions. Often the o my vehicle at these special moments you feel as if you are the only vehicle at times in the park. This was my husband and my 2nd 11day Great north Road trip with Okavanga Expeditions. Our last was 5 years ago and I loved it so much that I chose it for my 50th birthday celebration. It was even more spectacular than the first. We were over the moon to have Paul as our guide again. He is a legend ! Whatever challenges we gave him were met with skill and enthusiasm. I asked to see Secretary birds and yes we saw them. A leopard in a tree, lions chasing prey, lions roaring a few metres in front of us, elephants swimming...the list goes on. He even climbed on the roof of the truck to hunt down some lions. So many lions and Hunting Dogs. Hunting Dogs feeding at 2 different locations. Just amazing. The other staff included Small ,Chika and Mabole. These boys were so lovely and obliging. We had met Small before so we were very happy to see him again. Chika is a wonderful cook . I especially enjoyed his lunches which included Bobote and Chicken vegetable pie. Yum. Mabole served the best G and T and was always on the ready to top up our drinks. The company was on to it when our cruiser had issues and their communication from pre booking to post trip has been excellent. The tents are well set up and the beds really comfortable. The ensuite was great with a European toilet and decent shower. The cruiser was also very comfortable and having windproof ponchos was a luxury. Incredibly well organised, with excellent staff, unreal camping locations, vast wildlife sightings, brilliant food and accomodation. This was my first time to visit Botswana, and Africa, and was blown away by the whole tour and set up. Very well looked after, and wanted for nothing. Had a ball. A real connection back with nature, and all that it encompasses. Good for the heart and soul.Posted onVerified Trip of a lifetime We had the best 9 days on a camping safari around Botswana - I was initially a little unsure as to what the camping facilities would be like and how I would feel being in the wild- but it completely exceeded my expectations. The camp staff were super accomodating and have really got the trip down to a fine art- from hot water bottles at night, sunset to sunrise game drives, to all the little activities in between. It was great to travel around 4 different camp sites as each offers a unique landscape. Max our guide was incredible, such an intuitive guide with a real knowledge for the land and animals. I felt really looked after in his care and really appreciated all his efforts in making it the best safari we could have. I truly can’t recommend this experience more highly! It’s life changing! Okavango Expeditions is a very professional organisation providing an EXCEPTIONAL experience! Isaac our guide was an amazing team leader and tracker and ensured that we got up close to so many extraordinary animals in their natural environment. We saw and did way more than one would expect, so much so that we find it impossible to put into words just how amazing this bucket list trip was! The chef Chicka was unbelievably talented and the food he presented each & every meal, over an open fire, was something I would be very proud to prepare in my own kitchen! The team looked after us with such care and worked SO hard to ensure that we had every luxury possible even though we were camping! I also feel that the mobile safari gives an opportunity to experience 3 very different environments and the animals that inhabit each area! The landscapes were also so diverse and so incredibly beautiful!I would highly recommend Okavango expeditions to anyone especially if this is their first experience of Africa! Phenomenal!Load more
